Uncle sands

Ndi muVenda. I’m African. I’m Black. I’m a writer, producer, and an entrepreneur. I have an interest in the future of not only my children but my entire race globally. I believe that the total liberation of Africans lies in the hands of her natives sons & daughters… all it takes is a few people crazy enough to fight for change. I was raised in politics. My mother was ‘freedom fighting’ while I was in the womb, so in many ways, I was born for this… but the white supremacist system of exploitation moves perniciously, and I too found myself falling victim. For most of my teens I was properly whitewashed — believing every Black person who was failing to ‘succeed’ within this white supremacist system was to blame, not realising that I was individualising what has always been a collective problem. And this is why this website exists. I want to create a platform where we exchange ideas through Pro-Black writing, music and art. I want to counter the white supremacist propaganda that permeates every aspect of our lives, particularly as a Black man in South Africa. It’s all good and well to point out the failures of the proverbial ’man in the arena’ and say the elders sold out… but what are we doing with the little freedom they managed to attain? How are we moving the revolution forward? Gil Scott Heron said the first revolution is when you change your mind and he wasn’t wrong. All it takes is a change in mindset — make a concerted effort to consume content produced by Black people, learn about the lived experiences of people who look like you, listen to music produced by Africans, read history as written by your ancestors… Uncle Sands is a platform dedicated to exploring the challenges facing the Black community in the ever changing world.
